This site is mainly about my Summits On The Air (SOTA) and other portable amateur radio adventures as station ZL2ATH.

Summits On The Air is an award scheme for radio amateurs and shortwave listeners that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas.

I live in the North Island of New Zealand where there is no shortage of outdoor opportunities, so when I got into ham radio in 2015 it wasn’t long before I heard of SOTA and found I could easily incorporate it into my outdoor journeys. For myself and my partner Sarah, just getting out there into the bush or wilderness is what its all about and the radio part often fits with that.
